Eight-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill is facing eviction from her South Orange, New Jersey Mansion. The reclusive star who has lived in the mansion since 2009 stopped paying rent on the house last month according to TMZ.

The singer's landlord filed a case against Hill back in March and is now suing the star for eviction.

Hill who pled guilty to three counts of failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 could face up to a year of jail time and a $100,000 fine. During the course of those years the singer reportedly earned over $1.6 million.

According to the New York Daily News, the singer claimed the reasoning behind her not paying taxes was because she believed she and her family were in danger, ""I did whatever needed to be done in order to insulate my family from the climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism that I was surrounded by," Hill wrote on her Tumblr page.

The singer who has in the past gained attention for her odd behavior posted on her Tumbler page that it was necessary for her to bring her family into a seclusion where the can be around healthy people, "This was absolutely critical while trying to find and establish a new and very necessary community of healthy people, and also heal and detoxify myself and my family while raising my young children."

Hill believed that an alternate decision could have been reached because of her situation however authorities did not accept that as a legitimate reason, "Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution."

The former Fugee is currently raising six children, five of which are with Reggae artist Rohan Marley.

Hill is set to be sentenced next week for tax evasion.
