Last night MTV gave Hunger Game Fans an exclusive first look into the second installment of the Hunger Games trilogy. During the MTV Movie Awards fans were given a glimpse of what life is like after becoming a victor. Liam Hemsworth, who plays Gale Hawthorne in the franchise, presented a teaser trailer of the highly anticipated sequel during the award show.
The teaser showed Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), the victors of the 74th Annual Hunger Games from District 12 on their victory tour however it is clear that Katniss is far from being Victorious. As the two embark on the tour rebellion is growing within the districts and President Snow(Donald Sutherland) and the new Gamemaker(Philip Seymour Hoffman) have plans on bringing that to a halt.
In the trailer President Snow is unhappy about the outcome of the last Hunger Games, "She has become a beacon of hope for them, she has to be eliminated." Katniss defied the capital and her actions are giving the people of Panem hope, something that that President Snow is not too keen on. It is then decided that Katniss must die but at the right time.
Throughout The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer Katniss is seen struggling to please everyone yet seems unhappy herself. On her stop at District 11 a riot breaks out and as Katniss is dragged away the last thing she sees is a peacekeeper aiming a gun at a citizen's head. She begs her mentor Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) for advice and he tells her she must continue on this journey so she can distract the citizens from their reality. From there she returns to her district where Gale lets her know how significant her actions are to their district.
Katniss is seen having a talk with her sister and later stares down the barrel of a gun from a peacekeeper in an attempt to save Gale from a whipping. In the end of the trailer it is revealed that not only is Katniss seen as a threat to the capital but every Hunger Game victor is one as well. "Because of her, they all pose a threat. Because of her, they all think they're invincible."
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is scheduled to be in theaters November 22, 2013.
