Girls creator and star Lena Dunham takes to Twitter to clarify rumors and statements that she did not vote in 2012. Last year Dunham made an ad for President Obama which had her comparing voting to losing your virginity and for first-time-voters to go all the way with Obama. Dunham stated in the video, “Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You wanna do it with a great guy… someone who really cares about and understands women”.  This controversial ad did not fare well with conservatives who were outraged by Dunham’s comments.  Last Wednesday the New York City politics blog Room Eight claimed that Dunham did not vote at all during 2012 based on their scrutiny of the New York City voter files.

After the news of Dunham not voting in 2012 started to spread throughout the web, Dunham went o Twitter to clarify what actually occurred last year. Dunham stated that she flew from India to New York to cast her vote at her polling place. She did so to avoid dealing with the absentee ballot system.

Dunham tweeted “I went to my old polling place with my dad, where they let me vote by affidavit (what was totally allowed)” and ended by sarcastically tweeting, “Obviously I voted for Romney. I hope everyone has a nice day.”

Hopefully Dunham’s tweets puts an end to these claims.
