Carly Ray Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" took the world by storm last year and the feel good times may not be over just yet, with the chart topper nominated for two Grammy Awards, song of the year and best pop vocal.

In 2007, the 27 year-old pop artist finished third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol, and after the competition, Jepsen released her debut album Tug of War. "Bucket," the third single off of the album performed best on the charts, peaking at 32 on the Canadian Hot 100.

While she achieved some success with her debut album, it does not remotely compare to the accolades that "Call Me Maybe" received. The single had received plays on Canadian mainstream radio before Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez heard it and tweeted about it.

Jepsen told AOL, "Not too long after that, we were informed by my label, 604, that [Justin] and his manager [Scooter Braun] had actually approached them and asked if we'd be interested in combining forces and spreading the music outside of Canada." From there the song spread like wildfire.

"Call Me Maybe" reached number one in fourteen different countries, including the UK, Canada, and the United States. She became the first Canadian artist atop her home charts since Avril Lavigne did it in 2007.

Besides music chart success, the single was also the source of an endless number of viral videos. The song was lip-synched by U.S. soldiers and the U.S. swim team, and it was used in popular shows 90210, Glee and Castle. The single was parodied numerous times, even by Sesame Street's Cookie Monster, with his rendition "Share it Maybe."

Jepsen will have her hands full in the Song of the Year category, where she will go up against "The A Team" (Ed Sheeran), "Adorn" (Miguel), "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" (Kelly Clarkson) and "We Are Young" (Fun). But after the crazy ride that she has been on, maybe the Grammy Awards will be her night.
