British singer Adele will perform her 'Skyfall' theme song at the Oscars, scheduled on Feb 24, officials at the academy confirmed.
The academy tweeted, "Best 4 Words Ever: Adele Performing At #Oscars. (You know you wanna RT.)" The performance will be dedicated to the James Bond film franchise as the Academy further expressed its enthusiasm by tweeting, "We're so excited to have Adele perform Skyfall on this year's #Oscars, we made a gallery dedicated to Bond Theme."
However, Chicago Sun-Times reported that the singer-songwriter will lip-sync the theme song, if needed. An academy source revealed to the tabloid saying, "merely a safety net for the show. Just in case something goes wrong, there will be that pre-recorded track to have for a fall-back option - but only if needed." The newspaper also reported that, so far, Adele is the only singer of an Oscar-nominated song announced.
Adele is reportedly said to have greeted her upcoming performance as an 'honor.' "It's an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again," she said. "It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once."
In October, the theme song, 'Skyfall,' topped number two on the U.K. singles chart, reported The Telegraph. The James Bond movie has been nominated in most of the categories in this year's Oscars.
Recently, Adele won the Golden Globe Award for best original song for 'Skyfall.' The Guardian reported that the singer enthused "oh my God" repeatedly as she went to collect the award with her co-writer Paul Epworth. "I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press. I never thought I'd say that," the daily quoted her as saying.
