The year 2012 saw a lot of celebs that called it quits in their relationship. And the best part is that some of them even sorted out the issues and got back together.

Some of the couples who split are:

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: One of the most publicized split was between Cruise and Holmes. The actress filed for divorce in June 2012 but the reason behind the split is still not clear. While it has been speculated that Cruise's controlling nature and his belief in Scientology was the cause, neither of them have confirmed it.

Heidi Klum and Seal: Klum and Seal were known as one of the most devoted and romantic couples in the industry. They were even famous for renewing their vows each year before their friends and family but the couple split early January. Klum filed for divorce in April 2012.

Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth: Facinelli, who gained worldwide fame after playing the role of Carlisle Cullen in the "Twilight" franchise and Jennie Garth of "90210" fame had been married for about 11 years. Facinelli filed for divorce in 2012 and has been dating actress Jaimie Alexander since.

Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy: The celeb couple decided to go their separate ways after being together for two years during which they literally documented their lives through reality shows. The couple has a daughter, Bryn.

While these were married people filing for divorce, 2012 also saw star couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart breaking up after Stewart's cheating scandal. Photos of the actress kissing her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders surfaced in August after which Pattinson broke up with the 22-year-old. But Stewart's persistent texts and calls to the actor paid off and they reconciled after a few months.

Not just the Twilight couple, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez too went through heartbreak last year. The musical couple, who is often seen cozying up to each other, broke up after Bieber was seen flirting with a Victoria's Secret model. Bieber and Gomez reconciled early December but broke up again Dec. 30 after a massive blowout during a romantic getaway in Mexico.
