After Lady Gaga courted controversy by wearing a gun bra featuring two assault rifles strapped to her cups, now its fashion designer Philipp Plein who has shown his insensitive streak.
Plein's Autumn/Winter 2013 show during Milan Menswear Fashion Week showcased his gun-inspired collection, which had models walking down the ramp holding guns and wearing gas masks. Several of them even had tattoos with the message, "ONLY KILL FOR LOVE" and "LIFE'S A GAME AND IT'S NOT FAIR."
Following the show, the German-based designer has come under severe criticism for using guns as props. Sources in the fashion industry said it was done in bad taste, especially in light of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting incident.
With this collection, the designer has once again proved that he is out of touch with what's happening in the real world. Fashionista wrote: "We can only assume that, during those months leading up to Philipp Plein's menswear show in Milan ... the German designer had stranded himself on some remote island with no TV or Internet access, where he spent his hours scribbling ideas down on the back of a shovel by candlelight Abe Lincoln-style so as not to be subconsciously influenced by outside goings-on."
The New York magazine even went on to say that if such props were used by a designer other than Plein, the magazine would have applauded him for addressing the need for gun control.
Other publications too echoed the sentiment, adding that Plein has a penchant for creating controversies. One of his ad campaigns had identical twin brothers making out, and another show had a transgender model walking the ramp.
