Lady Gaga is known for her outlandish costumes. But she has been criticized for wearing two assault rifles strapped to her bra during her Vancouver concert, as it has hardly been a month since 26 people were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
She flaunted the look just a day after vice president Joe Biden met with Congress and the National Rifle Association (NRA) to discuss gun control legislation.
"I think it is gun porn," Ladd Everitt, a spokesman for the DC-based Coalition to Stop Gun Violence told the New York Post. "It's almost like she's telling her fans, 'The only way I can stimulate you is to show you guns and violence.' Does she not care about some of the grotesque episodes of gun violence we've seen lately? Is she not aware of them?"
It might have been carelessness on Gaga's part. Soon after realizing her mistake, Gaga removed the insensitive accessory from her bra. During the American leg of the tour she was spotted wearing just the bra sans the guns.
However, despite her removing the hideous guns, several groups and individuals want her to make amends and apologize for being insensitive.
Richard Castaldo, a man who barely escaped the April 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado, wants Gaga to apologize for being insensitive at such a time when the entire nation is just reeling back to normalcy.
"She should apologize if she upset people, because the climate surrounding guns is highly emotional right now," Castaldo told Celebuzz. "It is in poor taste and does not seem like the best time to do something like that."
He also added that though such outrageous costumes are expected during a Lady Gaga concert, he hoped she wasn't taking the Sandy Hook tragedy too lightly. "Because Sandy Hook was very sad," he said.
