The red carpet is one of the most popular places where fashion-lovers update themselves on the latest fads and trends. Each year celebrities flaunt the best and most classy outfits as well as bizarre and clumsy ones that make us flinch at these star-studded events.

Year after year such red carpet appearances have made a mark on all the fashionistas and 2012 was no different.

While some styles raised eyebrows, one trend that almost everyone admired was that of sheer dresses and jumpsuits.

During the premiere of "Snow White and the Huntsman," fans couldn't keep their eyes off Charlize Theron and her curves that dazzled in a sheer Christian Dior gown. The floor length attire looked very chic and delicate and the actress paired it with strappy black heels.

Mother of one, Beyonce too banked on sheer style and donned a sheer Givenchy haute couture gown that clung to her body and featured a black and purple ruffled train during the Met Gala.

Singer Fergie turned heads during the Grammy Awards when she showed off her curves and her black lingerie in an orange lace Jean Paul Gaultier gown.

Glee star Lea Michele stunned fans when she attended the Golden Globe Awards dressed in a sheer metallic Marchesa dress. The dress was sheer on the torso and revealed her décolletage.

While we are used to seeing these stars in daring and revealing dress, what came as a pleasant surprise in 2012 is how "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart managed to steal the limelight at various red carpets in elegant and daring ensembles. Just when fans had started getting tired of seeing Stewart in casual outfits like jeans and t-shirts, she stunned them in gowns, jumpsuits and killer heels.

For the "Breaking Dawn Part 2" premiere in Los Angeles, the 22-year-old wore a nude sheer number by Zuhair Murad and fans couldn't stop raving about her outfit.

Viewers were floored when she stepped on to the red carpet during the London premiere of the film. Looking very glamorous, Stewart tantalized fans in a sheer black lace jumpsuit and even we fell in love with the Zuhair Murad creation.

Sheer outfits played a big role on the red carpet in 2012 and though we loved a lot of ensembles, the Zuhair Murad jumpsuit won our hearts hands down.
