Famed singer Adele has decided to trademark her name and filed an application with United Kingdom's Intellectual Property Office, according to The Sun. By doing so she wants to make sure that her name is not misused to sell products that she doesn't endorse.

And in her pre-occupation in trademarking her name, the singer seems to have forgotten to register her son within 42 days of his birth and now faces a fine of about $1,612 for failing to do so.

Adele wants to patent her name as she is worried that it will be linked to cheap jewelry, cosmetics and perfumes and trick fans into buying the products. "She doesn't want anyone exploiting her name by using it on products which may trick punters into thinking she's involved with it," the paper quoted a source.

If the 24-year-old manages to get the trademark then she will be entitled to take legal action against companies and products that use her name to sell their products and services.

Adele isn't the first celebrity to have filed an application for a trademark. Beyonce and Jay-Z, who welcomed their daughter Blue Ivy in January, too had filed an application to trademark the toddler's name. Beyonce even planned to start a children's line of clothing under the name. But a U.S. court rejected their plea as a party planning company in Boston called Blue Ivy Events had already been carrying its operations under the name since 2009, according to Wonderwall.

If Adele is granted the trademark, she will have another feather in her cap this year. She has had a stellar 2012 as she was named Billboard's Top Artist of the Year for the second time, won numerous awards and garnered a lot of appreciation for her "Skyfall" theme song. Not just that, Adele also became a mother to a baby boy in October 2012.
