Amy Winehouse's death probe has been reopened by the British authorities since the legal credential of the then coroner Suzanne Greenway has come into question, reports CNN. Greenway had closed the case ruling that Winehouse died due to alcohol intoxication calling it "death by misadventure." The new probe will begin Jan. 8, 2013 with a new coroner.

Greenway had been appointed as assistant deputy coroner by her London Coroner husband Andrew Reid. But it was later found that Greenway had not been a registered lawyer in the UK for five years, which is mandatory. Owing to this Greenway lost her post.

Winehouse, who battled drug abuse for a number of years, was found dead in her London home, July 23, 2011. The singer had taken to binge drinking in 2008 after kicking a drug habit. By 2011, the Grammy winner had fallen into a pattern of abstaining for weeks and then relapsing. One such relapse is said to be the cause of the death.

The singer has quite a few hit numbers to her credit but her continuous use of drugs became the biggest threat to her career. At a later stage, Winehouse became more popular for her wild lifestyle and her quirky and queer sense of style than her music. Her style even got her nominations for "Worst Dressed Performer," and "Villain of the Year." Glamour magazine ranked her as the third worst dressed British woman. Her trademark beehive styled hair and exaggerated cat eye makeup is remembered even today.

As a tribute, the 27-year-old singer's father, Mitch Winehouse wrote a book "Amy, My Daughter" in which he talks about the troubled singer's battle with drugs and alcohol and how close they were. And even after death, controversy doesn't seem to leave her alone. The "Rehab" hit maker's name has been in the news again as her last boyfriend, Reg Traviss, has been charged with two counts of rape.
