South Korean rapper, PSY, who rose to fame when his song, "Gangnam Style" went viral on Youtube has been on a high of late. But the rapper may have to come off his high horse a bit as he has been pulled up for anti-American lyrics that he rapped in a concert in 2004. Following the resurfacing of this video, PSY has apologized to Americans through a statement he issued Dec. 7 according to app.com.
"While I'm grateful for the freedom to express one's self, I've learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I'm deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words," the site quoted PSY.
The 2004 onstage performance that resurfaced on the CNN's iReport and circulated online sees the rapper singing lyrics that support the death of American troops in Iraq. The lyrics of the song, "Dear America" was written by South Korean rock band, "N.E.X.T" and PSY was one of the three singers to rap it onstage.
The 34-year-old added that the song "was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall anti-war sentiment shared by others around the world at that time."
The song urges the listener to kill the Yankees who are torturing Iraqi captives and their superiors who ordered the torture and their families. It says, "Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers/Kill them all slowly and painfully," according to USA Today.
PSY received worldwide fame and also appeared in a number of events like the American Music Awards. He also made it to the accessories section of fans' closets when Brilliance, a retailer of diamonds, engagement rings and fine jewelry, designed a horse diamond pendant inspired by the highly successful Korean rapper.
Also his style of a blazer and a bow tie was one of the popular Halloween costumes this year. Keeping up with the Gangnam craze, former movie marketing executive, Dana Precious and star-power photographer, Peter Tangen, too released "Gangnam Style" costumes for Halloween.
PSY is set to perform at the "Christmas in Washington" concert that benefits the National Children's Medical Center and the concert will be attended by President Obama and family despite the buzz of the Anti- American rant.
