Country singer Carrie Underwood is all set to perform "My Favorite Things" as she has been roped in to play the role of Maria Von Trapp in a live broadcast of the musical "Sound of Music," according to USA Today. NBC is partnering with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and the show is scheduled for the holiday season of 2013.

"We're thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of 'The Sound of Music' live, and having Carrie Underwood as the star bring it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have. It's a particular joy to us as producers to see this amazing artist stretch into new territory with this classic musical," the site quoted the producers as saying.

This will be one of the most important roles in Underwood's career, who has formerly acted in shows like "How I Met Your Mother," and "The Buried Life."

The "American Idol" winner has come a long way since being a contestant on the show. While she was considered to be the ideal girl next door, she took a shot at glamour once she became a rage in the show. A girl who used to confidently flaunt her smile started showing off more than just her pearly whites.

Underwood, who became a household name, started making various appearances in strapless and halter dresses. But the star left everyone speechless when she hit the red carpet during the 2005 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards dressed in a ravishing strapless red gown, which did wonderful things to her newly acquired svelte figure. Not just that, she also flaunted new highlights on her tresses making sure that everyone knew she was someone to look out for.

Since then the singer's rise in the glamour quotient has been unstoppable. She went on to become the first celebrity face for Olay Skincare. Flaunting fabulous style, and perfect curves along with her powerful voice, Underwood has made her way into everyone's heart.

Now, the fashionista will probably give up strapless and figure hugging gowns and go back to being the simple girl as she will be seen donning tunics and frocks for her role as Maria.
