Alexander Wang may be the new creative director of Balenciaga according to New York Times Cathy Horyn. Cathy recently reported that a reliable source confirmed that Wang "appears to be the leading candidate" for the Spanish fashion house. Rumors have been growing that Christopher Kane who recently left Versus would take over at Balenciaga after the departure of Nicolas Ghesquiere but so far did not materialized.

According to WWD, Alexander Wang has accepted the job as the creative director of Balenciaga. 

Alexander Wang is American fashion designer launching his first ready-to-wear collection in 2007. Wang's style is known to be inspired by styles of the nineties; including grunge and slouch. French chic. Wang's creations includes T by Alexander Wang an edgy womens wear designs using predominantly black color but later expanded to orange, purple hot pink and aqua.

Balenciaga has grown under the leadership of Nicolas Ghesquière for the past 15 years and has recently launched it's "Florabotanica" fragrance featuring Kristen Stewart.

With the new leadership of Alexander Wang, Balenciaga will move towards more modern, youthful fashion opening up to sportswear, t-shirts and accessories.
