Jennifer Hudson never fails to steal hearts, be it with her voice or her style. And that is exactly what the singer did when she performed at a gala that honored actor and activist Sidney Poitier. The event was held at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island in the Bahamas, according to a report by atlnightspots.com.
Dressed in a stunning and elegant white lace dress, the 31-year-old stole the limelight and seemed to enjoy it. The high-necked dress that was sheer on her shoulders and arms and ended mid-thigh, did wonderful things to her toned body and showed off her slender legs. The singer teamed the dress with stylish suede high-heeled ankle boots in black.
Hudson, who usually sports her hair long and straight, wore it in curls and carried off the pompadour style with effortless élan. She completed her look with tiny diamond ear studs, smokey eyes and nude lips. Her purple nail color added a nice punch to her ensemble, while she flashed a dazzling smile at the red carpet.
The award-winning singer first mesmerized the crowd with her hit single, “Spotlight” and later belted out a medley of hit numbers by her idol Whitney Houston.
The commonwealth of the Bahamas, which was once a British colony, is celebrating its 40th year of independence, and honoring Poitier was a part of the festivities.
Poitier, famous for his roles in “To Sir with Love”, “In the Heat of the Night”, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and many more, is an American-Bahamian who is now considered an acting legend. In 1963, Poitier became the first black person to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Lilies of the Field”.
He also has a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, and an Honorary Oscar to his name.
