Chanel is an iconic brand for every fashionista alive, and so is Brad Pitt when it comes to Hollywood. When the two get together, one is bound to come across a distinctive affair. Brad Pitt has been signed as the new face of Chanel N°5. The actor follows in the footsteps of legendary Coco Chanel, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Hutton, Nicole Kidman and Audrey Tautou. Pitt is the first male face for the women’s fragrance.

Like Coco Chanel who dared to be different, the brand wants to break down barriers through this alliance with Pitt, and now views the fragrance through the eyes of a man. Pitt will also be effective in bringing more attention to the brand, considering his huge fan base.

“What's important to remember about CHANEL N°5 is how revolutionary this fragrance is; when it was introduced, it broke all the rules," says Pitt. “N°5 has always been the most iconic women's fragrance. That's what I see being the appeal of this campaign; it goes beyond the abstract of emotion or beauty to evoke what is timeless: a woman's spirit.”

The advertisement has been directed by Joe Wright of “Pride and Prejudice” fame, who describes the fragrance as “a phenomenon that continues to invent and reinvent itself.” Wright has directed several commercial films for N°5. “Each resembles a short poem,” the 40-year-old director notes.

For the campaign, Wright's aim was to capture the global element of the fragrance and illuminate how it stands as an omnipresent force worldwide. “I found it touching that women in every country have had a relationship with N°5, and I wanted to do something about that,” he added.

N°5 is one of the best-selling perfumes in the world. Not just the fragrance, even the packaging of the bottle is equally chic and elegant. A timeless classic, the bottle is rectangular in shape, with rounded shoulders and a black and white label. The perfume was made in reflection of Coco Chanel’s personal style and the number 5, which was her lucky number. It was the fifth submission presented to Mademoiselle Chanel on the fifth day of the fifth month of the year, and hence the name CHANEL N˚5.

The television ad has already been unveiled and print ads shot by Steven Klein will be seen November onwards.
