“Fashion Police” co-host Kelly Osbourne has been subjected to some stern fashion policing herself, thanks to the sparkling diamond manicure she flaunted at the Emmy Awards this year. Priced at $250,000 for a bottle, the nail lacquer contains 267-carats of black diamonds. The varnish, by Los Angeles-based luxury jeweler “Azature”, was released last month.
Osbourne had tweeted before the ceremony saying, “I'm s***ting myself to have that much money on my nails!” Later on the red carpet she told E! “I've been so scared to touch anything because its powdered black diamonds... worth $250,000. I'm the only person they let wear it, it's in a safe upstairs in the hotel room. I couldn't believe it. I have not touched a thing all day.”
Osbourne might have dazzled at the Emmy Awards, but the whole issue about the nail varnish costing $250,000 did not go down too well with the fans. Some fans seemed to really like the varnish, saying that it was her money and she had the right to choose how to spend it. But a number of people who took offence of it considered the splurge ‘wasteful and tacky’, some even arguing that it was an insensitive thing to do when there are funds falling short for a lot of other important things.
The nail varnish might have created uproar among fans, but it did stand out against Osbourne’s purple Zac Posen gown, making for a stunning contrast. And sticking to her quirky sense of style, she flaunted her matching lilac hair with striking red lips and a Judith Leiber clutch.
In her defense, Osbourne took to Twitter saying, “I see that my nail polish has offended some of you, however I see your point, but it was a once in a lifetime experience.” She quickly admitted that she did not have to bear any cost for the manicure and that she was lucky to be picked to wear the varnish. Osbourne later added, “And please forgive me for not regretting it. It made me feel like a queen!”
