Saks Fifth Avenue in Houston is celebrating the opening of the new Lafayette 148 shop. The celebration also includes a meet and greet event. In addition, designer-director Edward Wilkerson will also present his fall 2012 line at a fashion show.

Wilkerson joined the Lafayette 148 New York team in 1998 after having worked with famed design houses like Anne Klein & Co. and Donna Karan. Wilkerson’s designs include a lot of rich color and unique patterns inspired from his world travels. “Since Africa, my sense of color has not been the same after seeing how Mother Nature made grass such a lush green and the sky a sensual blue. I was so overwhelmed that I wanted to bottle it and bring it back home with me instead, I have photographs,” Wilkerson was quoted as saying by lafayette148ny.com.

Wilkerson’s fall collection features a perfect balance of ‘cool modernism and warm sensuality’. Reflecting his passion, the collection comes in various patterns that bring the fall season alive. This season, Wilkerson has focused on architectural details.

Talking about his fall collection, Wilkerson said, “Normally I'm inspired by some faraway place like India or Istanbul. This season, it was not about a place, but about looking at clothes from a more architectural angle.”

Saks Fifth Avenue is also celebrating Contemporary Week, which brings brand new shops and an exciting shopping experience to customers. It caters to the fashion and beauty needs of both men and women. The new bar, “12”, provides refreshments to nibble on while shopping.

The opening of Lafayette 148 New York also includes a meet and greet event from 4:30-6 p.m. The event will offer personal consultations and fittings with Wilkerson. The fashion show showcasing his collection will be held from 6-8 p.m.

The event also supports the United Negro College Fund, with 10 percent of sales proceeds for the evening being donated to the organization.
