Susan Hengst has announced the launch of her limited edition “No Such Creature Dress” . The science-inspired silk print dress has been printed in North Carolina and made in New York City.

The “No Such Creature Dress” comes in two versions which include a maxi dress with pagoda sleeves. The inspiration for this collection is drawn from an Israeli scientist Daniel Shetchman, who was awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering quasi-crystals with their 10-fold symmetry. The print on the “No Such Creature Dress” has been inspired by the attributes of these crystals.

Hengst faced a number of obstacles to bring her vision to print. “They told me that it simply couldn't be done,” she said.

Hengst was recently nominated for the National Design Award in fashion from the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum and is a popular designer. The Hengst Boutique features a range of dresses, jumpsuits, coats, jackets, vests, tops and bottoms, and signature pieces. Often described as “effortless elegance”, the collection is casual chic.

The dresses and jumpsuits are elegant and classy without being too loud or flamboyant. Hengst’s signature line includes a Bianca dress in sea green color which is very sophisticated. Also, the siren belt in fish leather is a stunning piece.

Most of Hengst’s apparel is manufactured at the garment center of Manhattan, and made from luxurious cottons, vintage prints, soft silks and Italian wool. Hengst has been featured in noted fashion publications like Italian Vogue, WWD, Teen Vogue, Dossier and many more.

The limited edition “No Such Creature Dress” will be available exclusively at the Hengst Boutique in Manhattan and on its official site.
