The top-growing skincare trends on search in the United States are snail serum and AviClear laser, according to New York City-based beauty trend tracker Spate.

Snail mucin, the mucus secreted by snails, has been gaining popularity as an ingredient in serums and other skincare products both in the U.S. and in South Korea.

Spate's report showed that snail serum, the derivative trend, showed a +305.2% year-over-year (YoY) growth in 2023. The brands that serve as market leaders for this trend are CosRx, Lunkin, and Benton.

Snail mucin comes in various product formats, and people are also searching for other skincare steps that contain this ingredient.

According to the Whitespace Opportunities in Skincare report Spate released on Nov. 20, snail serum had the most significant growth, with an increase in searches of 252.8%.

In the Korean Skincare Trends Report 2023, also by Spate, snail cream was among the top trends based on increase in search volume, with an average monthly search increase of +19,400. It came second to modeling mask, which clinched the top spot on Spate's list.

Meanwhile, the second top-growing skincare trend, the AviClear laser, had a +279.3% YoY growth this year.

This skin treatment was the first Food and Drug Administration-approved laser treatment for mild to severe acne, Spate said.

The report showed that the top related keyword search for AviClear laser was "near me," suggesting that consumers are looking for clinics in their area that offer this service.

Aside from treatment providers, consumers are also searching for the "cost" of AviClear laser sessions.

Patients would need to undergo three 30-minute AviClear treatment sessions over the course of three months.

According to Ringpfeil Advanced Dermatology, each session costs $1,000, which would total $3,000 for the complete treatment.
