A dermatologist has revealed a cost-effective alternative to pricey filler injections for those who want luscious lips.

According to Dr. Neera, who frequently shares skincare advice on TikTok under the username @dermatologysurgeon, applying hyaluronic acid serum on the lips will make them plump and hydrated.

Hyaluronic acid, a popular serum in the beauty community, has long been well-known for its skin benefits. It draws in moisture from the environment and addresses various signs of aging, such as wrinkles, redness, and dermatitis.

But in a recent TikTok video, Dr. Neera said, citing a clinical study, that hyaluronic acid serums also work great as a lip plumper.

"A clinical study showed that using hyaluronic acid serum three times daily on lips was an effective treatment to increase lip fullness and lip hydration in four weeks," she wrote in the caption of her video.

According to the skin expert, using a hyaluronic acid serum, which can cost as little as $9, daily can not only help enhance lip fullness but also even out lip texture and improve rosiness.

The dermatologist recommended incorporating it into daily skincare routines, claiming that "topical hyaluronic acid is a great subtle alternative to lip filler."

To achieve optimal results, which the dermatologist said can be seen in four weeks, Dr. Neera recommended applying the serum onto damp lips.

Some popular options include The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($10), Glow Recipe Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum ($47), The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 ($9), CosRX The Hyaluronic Acid 3 Serum ($25), Glossier Super Bounce ($29), CeraVe Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($23), Paula's Choice Boost Hyaluronic Acid Booster ($39), La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($40), and Revolution Skincare 2% Hyaluronic Acid Plumping & Hydrating Solution 30ml ($5.65).

While answering her followers' questions in the comments section of her video, the dermatologist said that she thinks the SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator is one of the "best" serums based on customer feedback and "most data behind it" but added that "most hyaluronic acids serums should work."

Positive reviews from people who have tried this technique further endorse its efficacy, with users reporting plumper and smoother lips.

One user commented, "I've been doing this for like two months, now I know why my small lips suddenly look so plump and nice."

Another praised the method, saying, "I started it yesterday, and my forever somewhat dry no matter what I do lips got so much better and smoother."

Dr. Neera's expert advice extends beyond lip care. She consistently shares beauty-related tips on TikTok, covering topics such as natural wrinkle remedies, budget-friendly skincare recommendations, and solutions for hair shedding.
