Camila Cabello is now "obsessed" with beauty, but it was not always that way for her.

During an exclusive interview with People conducted earlier this month and published Tuesday, the Cuban-Mexican singer discussed her evolving views on beauty, admitting she previously saw it as "frivolous."

"It's really evolved so much. I feel like when I was younger and I started working, beauty was just the last thing on my mind," Cabello told People prior to the L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth event. "Being in an immigrant family ... it felt frivolous to me."

The "Never Be the Same" singer shared that she developed a passion for beauty after realizing it was "an expression of joy and what it means to be alive."

"I'm obsessed with beauty now. It's just so fun," Cabello added.

Her mother, Sinuhe Cabello, served as a huge inspiration for her as she provided honest beauty advice whenever she needed it.

"She will be like, 'Your whole vibe is amazing, but you got to fix that part.' For her, it's always been [about how] looking your best really makes you feel more confident. It's not some frivolous, shallow thing," the 26-year-old singer-songwriter said. "It makes you feel better for you. It's true."

In the interview, Cabello, formerly part of girl band Fifth Harmony, also delved into her sense of empowerment and the elements that fuel it.

For the "Havana" singer, she feels most empowered when she's in touch with her emotions and "in tune with" herself.

"To give an example, if I'm feeling tired and I'm just mindlessly scrolling through my phone, I stop and I check in with myself. I'm like, 'Okay, am I doing this because I feel anxious? Do I feel a little lonely?'" Cabello shared.

Cabello attended the 18th annual L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth celebration in Hollywood, California, on Nov. 16, where she discussed how the remarkable women participating in the event inspired her.

"I remember the first year I ever attended Women of Worth, I was doing so much press and the promotional circuit at the time, I barely had the energy to go to another event," the "Familia" singer said, as reported by WWD. "Immediately upon arriving, I was so glad I came because I was so inspired by all the other incredible women involved. From then on, no matter what else I had going on, I knew I had to make this event and show up for these women who are real heroes."

Annually, the beauty giant selects 10 women honorees to receive grants, aiming to bolster and empower them in furthering their impact on the communities they serve.

Cabello became a L'Oréal Paris global spokesperson in 2017 and has been a consistent attendee at the annual event ever since.
