While autumn is a bit of a ways off, for those who love the fall of the year, it's possible that your mind has already turned to taking an autumn vacation. After all, who doesn't love to travel in the fall of the year, when the leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and everything around you smells fresh and clean?

However, preparing for an autumn vacation is a little different than preparing for a vacation in the middle of the summer. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your autumn vacation.

Don't Forget It's Sweater Weather

In many areas, the autumn weather brings warm days and chilly nights. Before you head out on your autumn vacation make sure to pack some cute sweaters to ward off that evening chill. While you want the sweaters you pack to be cute and fashionable, don't forget that they need to be comfortable as well.

The best sweaters can be worn over a lightweight shirt. You can wear them out by the bonfire, under a rain jacket, and inside, in front of the fireplace when you're trying to warm up after a chilly evening stroll.

Speaking of cozy sweaters, it's a good idea to pack a few pairs of warm socks. Make sure to pack an extra pair of woolen socks for the indoors so you can avoid stepping on cold floors in the mornings or at night.

Pack Hats, Scarves, and Gloves

Autumn days can go from sunny to rainy and dreary in under a second. That's why it's important to pack a couple of warm hats, some scarves, and at least one pair of gloves to take on your autumn vacation with you. While it may not drop to freezing where you are, it's best to be prepared and hats, scarves, and gloves will increase your comfort level on those long walks to watch the leaves fall.

Pack a Small Folding Umbrella

Speaking of rainy days, don't forget to pack a small, folding umbrella to keep the rain or mist off on your vacation. While you'll have your rain jacket at the ready, without an umbrella your legs will still get wet.

There's nothing that can ruin a day of your vacation faster than spending a day in damp clothes because you didn't pack your umbrella.

Remember to Pack Light

You should learn to pack light for any vacation you go on, but with an autumn vacation, you're going to want to be out and about looking at all the fall foliage. If at all possible, put everything into one bag so it's easy to carry, especially if you're going to be camping or hiking for your vacation.

Don't Forget Your Photography Gear

No matter what season it is, it's always a good idea to check that your photography gear is in proper working order before you head out on vacation. It's especially important on an autumn vacation because there are tons of leaves falling and so many spectacular scenes to catch on film.

Make sure that your camera equipment is in tip-top shape, and don't forget to pack it all up and have it waiting by the door when you're ready to leave. Camera equipment is too expensive to have to purchase during your vacation.

These are just a few tips for helping you pack your things for an autumn vacation. Remember, you want to pack light for all vacation, but especially in the fall when you might be out and about more due to the nice, cool weather. Autumn is the perfect time to get away, don't you think?
