Project Gemel by Katherine Alexandra Brunacci has been honored with the noted A’ Design Award for the Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Category by A’ Award and Competitions, as announced through a press release.
Brunacci said, “My aim was to create a gemstone using press forming as my method of fabrication, and utilize the product in my historically referenced jewellery designs. The result is a lightweight replica gemstone 'Gemel'. 'Gemel' can be produced in a wide variety of vibrant colors, patterns and sizes. 'Gemel' is lightweight, making it possible for large stone 'Gemel' to be worn as earrings that are comfortable for the wearer. The use of 'Gemel' gives me the opportunity for a wide range of shapes and colors to be incorporated into my jewellery design.”(sic)
Gemel can be worn as jewelry and used in earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings. Gemel is better worn with other imitation gems, as this allows it to maintain its lightweight property, and hence large pieces can be made without it causing discomfort.
Brunacci started designing jewelry when she was 15 and wanted to create her line of jewelry since then. She founded the company ‘Gallery Fifty Four’ in early 2010 and she specializes in limited edition pieces.
The A’ Design Award is given to the top 20 percent designs that have achieved an excellent level of perfection and are voted on the basis of functionality, engineering, presentation, innovation and usability, among other factors.
