As one of the most sensitive parts on a woman's body, thinking through which hair removal procedure is best for you is an important question to ask. Although a number of hair removal procedures are not exactly permanent, there are a considerable number of options that allow you to eliminate hair growth and watch your budget while doing so as well.

In terms of methods, there are plenty of options to choose from: tweezers and threading for those pesky eyebrows, waxing or sugaring legs and underarm areas, shaving with a simple razor, and even laser hair removal. For those of you who are doing the research to determine which temporary, semi-permanent or permanent hair removal option is best for you, you may be wondering if there are some options that last longer than others.

Are Most Hair Removal Procedures Permanent?

While not all hair removal procedures are made equally - there are some procedures that last longer than others. Some procedures are temporary though sufficient, while others, once completed prevent growth entirely.

In the case of all the options, it's important to familiarize with how frequently you would have to get the procedures, as well as any potential risk or challenge such as skin irritation, allergic reactions, burns, and in-grown hair.

In the case of treatments such as Brazilian waxing, while the method removes hair and destroys it at the follicle, this technique, which entails using a special wax which is adhered to the hair and is then removed from the skin using a cloth strip, is not permanent and must be revisited every 6-8 weeks. Other options such as laser hair removal can last longer.

That said, it comes with an entirely different set of distinct risks and challenges. For example, laser hair removal can result in potential skin discoloration and burn if the procedure is not handled properly.

How Effective Are Hair Removal Procedures?

Most hair removal procedures leave skin clear and smooth, but some procedures last much longer than others. Perhaps the method that has the shortest lifespan is shaving with a regular razor or using tweezers, as in the case of plucking eyebrows.

Depending on the frequency of your hair growth, those who use these methods may find that they are already growing back hair stubble in 3 to 5 days. If this issue does not pose a problem, then shaving or tweezing is likely the option for you.

However, if you are looking for an option that lasts much longer, you might consider using other methods such as waxing, sugaring, or laser hair removal handsets. These methods can leave the skin area smooth for weeks. In the case of laser hair removal, while the recommended number of sessions are six, this may not be enough in order to remove all of the hair.

Whatever the method you choose, it is important to consider how each method tackles the hair follicles, this is important because a method that gets closer to the root will more likely last longer. For example, in the case of laser hair removal, this method destroys the hair's root right down to the follicle by using a pulsed light.

Experts suggest options such as electrolysis and needle epilators as methods that offer more permanent solutions. No matter the method you choose, be sure to find out which fits your needs in terms of length of time you are hoping the method to last, as well as the costs associated with that method.

While there are certainly methods that are more effective and longer lasting than others, there are noted differences between each method so be sure to do your research to determine which method is best for you.
