Angelina Jolie reprised her role as Maleficent -- the villainous yet soft-hearted dark fairy godmother to Princess Aurora played by Elle Fanning -- in the titular film "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil",
If you didn't notice in the sequel to the 2014 movie though, Jolie sported a new shade of lipstick to make her look standout and well, more villainourss
The "Tomb Raider" star reportedly spent a great deal of time finding the perfect shade of red lipstick that has now become iconic to her character.
Jolie went for a deeper shade of red for the sequel, which is a massive hit all over North America with over $69.4 million in the box-office opening weekend.
"Maleficent 2" Norwegian film director Joachim Ronning revealed they had hours of discussion with Jolie over her lipstick color for the sequel. Ronning shared how Maleficent wore "a bit saturated" in the first instalation of the popular movie.
MAC All the Way
It should be noted that Angelina Jolie settled with a MAC red lipstick for the two "Maleficent" movies. In the first "Maleficent" flick, Jolie wore MAC's Pro Longwear Lipglass in Anthurium.
The shade became part of MAC's Maleficent collection, which became popular among fans especially those who are trying to cop the villain's look for Halloween.
In the sequel, both the director and the main star reportedly wanted a more natural, cool yet dark red lipstick for the return of the villain.
The right color was even more important to Jolie than anyone else. Ultimately, the important decision was left to Jolie.
"When she is happy, I get happy," says the "Maleficent 2" director.
Ronning's interest in costume and cosmetics is surprising, as most filmgoers wouldn't care for the difference. But the costume designer Ellen Mirojnick revealed that it is "a big deal" to find the right shade of lipstick, as it will stand out in the dark costume worn by the vengeful villain.
MAC Matte Russian Red lipstick is what the wicked fairy godmother wore in the new movie. It is a cool-toned, medium-dark red lipstick in a gloss-free matte finish. Cool red lipstick is best for those with a fair skin tone.
For a glossier look, they topped it off with Mac's Clear Lipglass.
Apparently, Maleficent is a big fan of MAC makeup products, as her look can be copied using the makeup brand. For her cheekbones, they used MAC Powder Blush in Blunt, Pro Longwear Concealer, and Studio Fix Sculpt & Shape blended for the perfect contour.
Her eye shadow was MAC's deep blue-gray Scene Eyeshadow blended with the slightly shimmery MAC Print for deep-set smoky eyes. They then applied Mac's #36 lash and Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash for her striking lashes.
"Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" had a strong opening weekend, and the film is expected to generate more sales in the days leading to Halloween. Jolie showcased great performance and commitment to her character once again, as she gave justice to Maleficent.
If you haven't watched the film yet though, make sure to check Angelina's Russian Red lipstick when you do and compare it to the previous one!
