American Apparel advertisments display models with imperfections and blemishes, most are recruited off the street. One interesting model is 'Jacky' a silver haired women in her sixties who became the new face of American Apparel 'Advanced Basics.' Recruited at a cafe in New York City.
American Apparel U.S clothing manufacture is known for solid-colors cotton knitwear made in the United States. The brand is also known for it's provocative and controversial advertising. American Apparel advertising "telegraphs the brand" according to CEO Dov Charney.
"There was something so compelling about Jacky's look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair. During a long discussion that touched on everything from career choices and nutrition to insights on relationships, age and beauty, we asked if she would consider being photographed by us. We were thrilled when she agreed. Here are some photos we've taken of Jacky over the last few months showing how she likes to wear American Apparel. According to Fashionista, Jacky was with friends in the Village section of NYC when a women walked by and told her she looked "So regal - You're just beautiful." Week later she met the same women again, this time striking up a conversation and later recruited to be a model for American Apparel.
American Apparel "Advance Basics' is the first modeling job for Jackie, she find the shoot engaging and creative. Jackie said she and American Apparel discovered each other in reference to the brands affordability and fit for her 6 foot frame.
