French Police has raided the home and office of France former president Nicolas Sarkozy to investigate alleged illegal campaign funds by L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt.

French police and investigators have searched both Paris Mansion of Nicolas Sarkozy as well as the offices and legal firm where he works for evidence into alleged illegal funds.

The French Police are investigating alleged illigal funds received through brown envelopes of cash to Nicolas from Liliane Bettencourt, L'Oreal cosmetic company heiress and the wealthiest women in France, according French newspaper Le Monde

Liliane Bettencourt is the principal shareholder of L'Oreal group, largest cosmetics and beauty company in the world. She is also one of the world richest women with a fortune estimated at $23.5 billion U.S dollars. Lilian inherited the L'Oreal fortune when her father Eugene Schueller founder died in 1957.

The L'Oreal heiress has shunned the media publicity since 2007 when she faced intense scrutiny over her alleged funding of conservative French politicians such as Nicolas Sarkozy.

French Police is currently investigating home and offices of Nicolas Sarkozy in a broader investigation into illegal financing and political manuvering by L'Oreal's Liliane Bettancoourt.

Both Nicolas and Carla Bruni are out of the country in Qubec Canada, according to Sarkozy's lawyer Thierry Herzog adding,
"The raids.. will as expected prove futile." in a statement to the media.
