Women who are currently on a low carbohydrate and high protein Atkens style diet may be at greater risk of developing heart disease, according to a recent study published in the British Medical Journal.

After following 43,000 Swedish women over a period of 15 years Scientist found those with 'Atkins-style' diets have a 62% greater risk of suffering a "cardiovascular event," and cardiovascular disease.

Women who daily eat 5g grams higher of protein and 20g grams lower of carbohydrates has an increase risk of cardiovascular disease by 5%.

Atkins style diet's are favored by many celebrities as a method to lose weight and keep thin, but this new report may shed light to the potential risks.
