Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev fans should celebrate the reunion of Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert/Katherine Pierce not only for the series finale of "The Vampire Diaries," but as rivals on the fourth season on its spinoff show, "The Originals" as well.

According to TV Line, Somerhalder and Dobrev along with Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) will join the cast of "The Originals," with a possibility of the spinoff showing fans what may have happened to the vampires of Mystic Falls after "The Vampire Diaries" wraps.

However, it will be the end of both shows, as "The Originals" will wrap up after its fourth season, following closely in the steps of its original series, although there have been reports of ratings not being up to par for another season.

EnStarz reported that Dobrev had been in two minds regarding her return, as she initially refused to join the cast of "The Originals" opposite her ex-boyfriend, Somerhalder. However, neither of them confirmed such speculations. Not only that, there have also been rumors of Nikki Reed disliking the idea of the two of them getting back together on-screen, as she is allegedly worried that her husband still harbored some feelings for Dobrev - whom he was ready to marry before they broke up in 2013.

Gossip aside, it seems that it really is time to close the story on the vampires of Mystic Falls as ratings refused to go up even for the penultimate episode of Julie Plec's long-running series. Deadline reported that the series evened out from the previous episode's ratings, and not more than that can be expected for the finale.

"The Vampire Diaries" had a good run, but several reports and blogs shared the same sentiments: vampires have long been overdone, and it's time to close the casket on this one.
