Recently crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2012, Carline Duran lost her crown after information on her being married was found.
Beauty pageants and scandals have, of late, been building a relationship in itself. In a spam of two months, the globe has witnessed two beauty pageant scandals and both on an International level. First, model Jenna Talackova was disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada pageant after she was found to be a transgender. The event organizers released a statement stating that Talackova "did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best."
What followed was a series of brash words and the model threatening to sue the organization if the rule was not abolished. Talackova's attorney Gloria Allred said in a news conference in Los Angeles, "Jenna entered this competition and gave the pageant her time, her best efforts and her money. She did not think for one moment that what she might have looked like at birth would be relevant. She did not ask Mr. Trump to prove that she is a naturally-born man, or to see the photos of his birth, to view his anatomy, to prove that he was male. It made no difference to her. Why should it have made a difference to him.? Mr. Trump's statement fails to state that the rule that only naturally-born women will be allowed to compete will be eliminated. Otherwise, we are considering all of Jenna's legal options."
Finally, the model was allowed to take part and complete. Even before the flames of this controversy were allowed to cool, we have yet another controversy.
25 year old Carlina Duran was crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2012 on 17 April, 2012. However, after news got around that the young model was married she was de-crowned and was asked to hand over the crown to first runner-up Dulcita Lieggi. Duran is said to have tied the knot in 2009. As per the rules, participates taking part at the pageant should be single. Dominican newspaper Diario Libre reported the news and the model confirmed
The Associated Press reported that Duran, during a Wednesday night news conference, said that she had never lived with her husband. "In my daily life, I remained like a single woman, without thinking of myself neither materially nor spiritually married." The statement also said the marriage was brief, and the couple had begun annulment proceedings. The statement did not specify whether the annulment was finalized.
For years people believed that beauty pageant were simple and all your required was beauty and talent, these very recent scandals have shed light on the rules and regulations that are present under all this glamour.
