To avoid confusion and the collision of fashion events, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the British Fashion Council (BFC) have announced Fashion Week dates for the next two years in advance.

2012 saw a lot of confusion and the clashing of some major Fashion Week dates. The 2013 summer/spring season involving both Milan and Paris Fashion week was one such example. Thus, this announcement will prevent all such happenings in the future. The British Fashion Council said in a statement, "Both the BFC and CFDA are confident that this confirmation will ensure the smooth running of both fashion weeks and allow for designer brands and businesses in all four fashion capitals - New York, London, Milan and Paris - to successfully plan for the long term."

The collision and confusion all began when the Milan Fashion Council announced that their 2012 event would be rescheduled to overlap with the New York and London Fashion Weeks. This created an uproar among fashion powerhouses while eminent fashion magazine editors threatened to boycott the event. In response, Diane von Furstenberg, President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, announced that the council would not budge from plans to start the US Fashion Week on the second Thursday of September.

However, both the BFC and the CFDA ultimately gave their consent to change their 2012 show dates. Here is the schedule announced by both councils for the upcoming fashion weeks in the following two years:
