It is roughly one year from Kate Middleton and Prince William's anniversary. No news had been previously made about who actually designed the most celebrated dresses Kate wore on her wedding day in 2011. However, Grazia Magazine attended the "Dress of the Year" ceremony at the Bath Fashion Museum where Vogue's Hamish Bowles presided. There, he filled them in on some new details concerning Sarah Burton's cover-up scheme.
Last March, Sarah showed the McQueen collection with colors mostly heavy on white and cream wedding-esque dresses. That maneuver was done specifically so she could order the yards and yards of lace and material she needed for the wedding dress without bringing any attention.
"The white and ivory dresses in this collection were created as a cover for The White Dress Project," Bowles said, "Namely the wedding dress that Sarah Burton created for Catherine Middleton's marriage to Prince William - the most anticipated, talked about, and ultimately, applauded dress of the year."
The highly regarded Anna Wintour took it upon herself to discover whether Sarah actually made the dress or not, reports Grazia.
"Anna looked Sarah in the eye - an experience that would jelly the marrow of bigger people - and asked, 'Are you designing Kate Middleton's dress?' and Sarah said, 'I am not designing the dress.'"
"Blimey, what a brave lady! So Anna was telling everyone, 'Sarah told me she's not doing the dress, so she's not doing the dress.' Now Anna admits Sarah did an amazing job," they reported.
We agree!
