Babies, surprisingly, are beginning to glitter and sparkle a bit earlier these days than they would have many many years down the road. Miami has a blooming trend of babies wearing earrings.
An article came out not long ago in the New York Times concerning a mother who contemplates the ethics of her baby getting a piercing. The basis of her decision is on others own decision and the cultural background of the father.
"I learned in a hospital-sponsored prenatal class, where all of the other moms were Colombian, Venezuelan or Cuban-American. Moreover, piercing babies' ears is the custom of the country where we all now live, which is to say Miami," says author Eleni N.
She goes on to consider how God would want her daughter to adorn her ears.
"Was I being cruel to deny my daughter something that everyone around her seemed to be consider a God-given right for a female?"
The conclusion is exercise the God given rights and look beautiful even while the babies are not even aware of it. With this attitude, perhaps one can expect more twinkling ears spring up around the country. At least for now, the trend is in Miami.
