Guillermo Del Toro revealed that some of the original film's favorite characters will make a comeback in "Pacific Rim 2" including Charlie Day (Dr. Newton Geiszler) and Burn Gorman (Gottlieb).

"Yes. It's quite a different movie from the first one in that, but I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn and Charlie," Del Toro said in an interview with Collider.

"They are really, really - I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them."

Del Toro stressed his enthusiasm over working with Day and Burn again and his intent not to include all the characters from the first instalment to build to a third instalment.

"I love writing for Charlie and Burn. I mean, [Burn's] in Crimson Peak for that reason, because I love working with him. You're gonna get a lot of that, but the Kaijus are very different and you're gonna see a very different type of the robots I think. It's gonna be quite a different adventure," he continued.

Meanwhile, the 50-year old director teases about the events "Pacific Rim 2," which is set in a world where monstrous sea creature Kaiju is no longer a threat and what will happen to Jaeger tech once that happens.

"It's a few years after the first one. It's not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after - what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It's quite a jump," he added.

Though the villainous behemoth would not make a comeback in "Pacific Rim 2," Del Toro himself revealed that there will be new types of monsters in the upcoming film, ScreenCrush reports.

"Pacific Rim 2" is scheduled to premiere on April 7, 2017.
