Johnny Depp's interesting sense of style has earned him a fashion icon award from the Council of Fashion Designer's of America. He will receive the honorable prize at the CFDA gala in Lincoln Center on June 4, where Seth Meyers will be hosting.
CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and CEO Steven Kolb gave details about the award ceremony and gala on Wednesday night. "This year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CFDA, we can see what a critical role the CFDA Fashion Awards continue to play in our efforts to promote American Fashion," Kolb said in a news release. "This year's nominees truly represent the important influence of American design. We look forward to once again honoring the best and brightest talent working today."
Contenders for womenswear design of the year included Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen for "The Row," Marc Jacobs, and Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for "Proenza Schouler."
For menswear, contenders included Billy Reid, Patrik Ervell and Simon Spurr. And Alexander Wang, Reed Krakoff & McCollough, and Hernandez were considered for best accessory design.
Tommy Hilfiger will be receiving a lifetime achievement award.

- -Media award: Scott Schuman and Garance Dore.
- -Founders award: Andrew Rosen.
- -International award: Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garcons.
