"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" goes on sale on Nov. 4 and the game's publishing company Activision hopes to bring in millions with the new release, BBC NEWS reported.
The latest version of first-person shooting game "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" is set to go on sale on Tuesday and Activision is hoping that the new release helps bring more interest to the "Call of Duty" franchise.
Activision is also looking to the upcoming holiday season to help boost sales as well as the fact that several big budget titles, such as "Batman: Arkham Knight," "Battlefield Hardline" and "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt", have been delayed for 2015.
Activision's campaign follows claims by industry analysts worried over the downfall of the franchise and the fact that pre-orders have not been as high as previous games, Venture Beat claimed.
However, "Call of Duty" still sells more than a billion dollars' worth of games every year. Also, Activision enlisted Sledgehammer Games as its sole developer and added Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey to help the game's chances of hauling in more sales.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing also said that pre-orders were not a good basis of a game's success, CNBC claimed.
"We see purchase intent well above last year and we see engagement with the brand in social media channels all being markedly up so I'm still optimistic," he said. "Given increased digital expectations and last year's quality issues, we believe retailers are being cautious with presale orders and will prefer to chase demand."
"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" is set in 2054 and allows gamers to use futuristic weapons and engage in an interactive storytelling experience, according to Fortune. The game also features a single player campaign in which gamers will get to play Jack Mitchell, played by actor Troy Baker, a former US Marine who ends up working for Jonathan Irons, played by Spacey, in a battle against terrorist group KVA.
Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey said that the role of Jonathan Irons had always been meant for Spacey. The role was written with him mind even before the actor was approached to join the game. Spacey, Baker and other actors and actresses also provided not just the voice but the full performance captured acting for the game.
"Fans are going to see nearly photorealistic performances with the actors in this game," Condrey said. "Interactive storytelling is a great opportunity for Call of Duty to really go after performances and storytelling that we haven't seen before on next generation consoles."
Hirshberg expressed his confidence in Sledgehammer, saying that the secret to their success with keeping the franchise relevant and fresh was their "willingness to let each developer do their own thing with the franchise."
"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" was developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. Its official release date is on Nov. 4 and will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
