"House of Cards" actress and stage performer Elizabeth Norment died of cancer at the the age of 61 on Oct. 13 in New York City, according to a death notice that the Washington Post received.
Norment died under the care of the Memorial Sloan Kettering, which is the world's oldest and largest private cancer center, according to its website.
Diane Bush, owner of Leading Artists Talent Agency and Norment's representative, has confirmed her death but was not able to provide any additional details, according to the LA Times.
Norment graduated from Yale University with a master's in fine arts in 1979. She performed numerous stage roles in Southern California in the 1980s and early 1990s.
She has took on the roles of Shakespeare's three female characters in "As You Like It," "Much Ado About Nothing" and "The Merchant of Venice" at the Grove Shakespeare Festival in Garden Grove in 1990 and 1991.
Most recently, Norment played as Nancy Kaufberger, the secretary of Francis Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, on Netflix's "House of Cards."
Out of respect for the actress, Spacey wrote a tweet to acknowledge the actress' passing.
"RIP Elizabeth Norment. We all loved her and she leaves a void in all of us here at HoC's," Spacey wrote.
"Everyone at 'House of Cards' is deeply saddened by Elizabeth's passing," Beau Willimon, "House of Cards" executive producer, said in a statement, according to NBC. "She was a talented actress, a warm soul and a good friend to us all,".
MRC, the studio that produces "House of Cards," has also released a statement regarding Norment as a talented actress, saying that she has touched the entire "House of Cards" cast and crew.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends," MRC wrote.
The actress is survived by her mother Nancy, sisters Kate, Sarah and Martha, her brother Clarence, as well as her nieces and nephews, according to Us Magazine.
