Aaron Lewis accidentally swapped the lyrics to the national anthem during the World Series game between the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals on Oct. 27 at AT&T Park, Entertainment Wise reported.
Instead of singing, "the twilight's last gleaming" in the second line, he sang "were so gallantly streaming," which is in the fourth line.
The lead singer of the band Stained released a statement apologizing for ruining his moment in the spotlight by writing on his Facebook page.
"All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the Nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened. America is the greatest country in the world," he stated.
He said that "The Star-Spangled Banner" meant so much to so many, including himself. He added that he hopes that everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and his true intent of this performance, according to Entertainment Wise.
According to his statement, Lewis also hopes that the nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of the national pastime would forgive him.
Lewis joined in on the slamming of Christina Aguilera three years ago when she made a mistake when she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl.
During his concert in Westbury, New York on Feb. 20, 2011, he openly mocked Aguilera's version of the national anthem.
"Fuck, it worked for Christina, or was that Cyndi Lauper," Lewis said.
He also said that he doesn't understand how people who are tasked to sing the national anthem can be so self-absorbed that they would try to change the song, Saving Country Music reported.
Despite his mishap, the crowd cheered the singer on as he ended the tune to wild applause, according to Bleacher Report.
In the match, the San Francisco Giants won 5-0 over the Kansas City Royals, Grant Land reported.
