Adam Deacon takes home the BAFTA's Orange Wednesday Award beating Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth and Chris O'Dowd. In contrast, 10 years ago he was in a hostel.
Deacon is most known for urban dramas like 'Kidulthood' and 'Adulthood'. While the acting career progressed- he faced several rejections fo rparts. He decided to write from then on. His directorial debut 'Anuvahood', set off fuse as Deacon rose above being a typecast by producing a council estate comedy. This all happen before 30 years old. He received plenty of support from family, friends, and fans- giving fans a name 'Deaconettes'.
Grazia caught up with him to ask him about the win
"It feels surreal; I was amazed by the support. I won before I even came down to this - I've never seen that much support. Thank you to everyone out there. I was getting Twitter messages all day from kids saying that they spent their last 50p on credit to vote and some of these kids are only 14 and probably too young to have seen my movies! It means much because it was a people's vote. It started with the industry with the long list and went all the way back to the people and I can't thank them enough. "
He continues on to describe anything that is coming up in the future
"I've got a film coming out in March, called 'Payback Season' where I play a footballer. It's quite different from the parts you've seen me play before as it's a bit more calm but he still comes from a council estate and before you know it, he gets involved with some of his old friends and there's all this jealousy around and it's a story about celebrity culture and the side you don't see. I've also got 'Outside Bet' and 'Comedown' coming out this year and I'm trying to write a comedy on music culture... so I'm very busy!"
He went on to comment on living in America.
"I'll be honest; I've never been to America, that's always been another dream of mine. I'd love to go out and have a holiday but also meet people and see what happens... "
