After "The Judge" actor Robert Downey Jr. told Howard Stern during an interview that he wanted to reconnect with his former girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker, the latter's husband immediately responded.

Downey told Stern, "I'll make a point of trying to see her while I'm here. I'd like to. I'll ask permission from (Matthew Broderick). I just want to check in for a few minutes."

"Of course, he's more than (okay to contact her). They're great friends! What would I say? No? Who do you think I am?" Matthew Broderick told US Magazine at the opening night of his Broadway show "It's Only a Play" in New York City.

Broderick added, "I love Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica Parker, so (I will let them reconnect with each other)."

Parker is also on the same page. Since she and Downey have always been on good terms, she said, "Of course, I'm hospitable to that!"

After meeting on the set of "Firstborn" in 1984, Downey and Parker dated but broke up in 1991 due to the former's drug and alcohol abuse, according to Daily Mail.

Downey told Stern he did not acknowledge what was going on with him at the time.

"I'd try to make light of it, but sure, when you're with someone for seven years, 18 to our mid-20s, it's kind of a big deal," Downey admitted.

It has been more than two decades since, and "The Judge" actor is now married to Susan Downey while the "Sex and the City" alum has been married to Broderick for 17 years.

Meanwhile, Downey's film "The Judge" ranked number five at the weekend box office earning $13.3 million. It failed to beat "Gone Girl" with $27 million, "Dracula Untold" with $24 million, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" with $19 million and "Annabelle" with $16 million, The Guardian reported.
