Waka Flocka Flame was arrested Friday, Oct. 10, for bringing a loaded handgun to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Atlanta Police responded to a call of a weapon found in the 28-year-old rapper's carry-on bag, during a security scan, Fox 5 reported.
Police said that the Queens, New York-born recording artist did not have a weapons permit, and so he was charged with carrying a weapon in a prohibited place, and was taken to the Clayton County jail, where he spent less than three hours before being released on bond Friday afternoon, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
And though the police did not specify the kind of handgun the rapper was carrying when he was arrested, an Instagram post - pointed out by MTV News - suggested that authorities found a 5.7X28mm pistol in his bag.
TSA (Transportation Security Administration) posted an Instagram photograph Friday of a loaded 5.7X28mm pistol found at the same airport where the rapper was arrested.
"#TSACatch - This 5.7X28mm pistol was discovered in a carry-on bag today at the #Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (#ATL) International Airport," the caption reads. "It was loaded with 29 rounds plus one in the chamber. This could have been legally packed in checked baggage. Learn more about traveling with firearms at TSA.gov."
The rapper's mother and rep, Debra Antney, told TMZ that that the incident was a big mistake, and the gun belongs to her son's fiancé. She explained that the two are in the process of moving, and all their things got mixed up , so the rapper accidentally ended up grabbing his fiancé's bag which contained the gun.
Waka Flocka Flame had recently been getting back to the music scene prior to his arrest. Just last week, he teamed up with Diplo for "Techno," and his third studio album "Flockaveli 2" is about to be released.
In October 2013, the rapper confirmed that Ne-Yo and Drake would be featured on his upcoming album, according to HipHopDX.
