New York Fashion Week kicked off on Feb. 9 for eight days of scanning and plotting the new trends for the Fall and Winter collections. Day 1 showed lots of promise. There are some trends that will stick around and some news styles that will blossom with the warm whether. Here is a look at the top designer's fashionable (and inexpensive) trends for next season!

Here is what BCBG MAX AZRIA has got on the runway:

1. Colorblocking. No more neon pink. Things are mellowing out with softer tones like coral and merlot.

2. Geometric shapes. Keeping it simple.

3. Pleats.

4. Mixed fabrics. Patchwork style.

A look at RICHARD CHAI:

1. Top coats. Men's style for females.

2. Tweed coats.

3. Pinstripe pants. For the powerful female.

4. Trousers. Slimmer and shorter, for men.

5. Sheer layers.

And TADASHI SHOJI

1. Gowns. Lots. Glamorous, yet simple.

And CYNTHIA ROWLEY

Rowley says her inspiration came from "mechanics, cobblers and leathermen. Welding, oil slicks. Women artists making big, strong work." Enough said.
