Last night A-list models like Doutzen Kroes, Coco Rocha, Crystal Renn, Shalom Harlow, and more showed up at the party in the meatpacking district, not for the entertainment alone, but to celebrate the opening of Model Alliance.
Model Alliance is a non-profit organization founded by Sara Ziff aimed to helping models in the American fashion industry organize for safe, fair, and healthy standards in their workplace."
Sarah has spent more than half of her life as a model- age 29 now and has a keen sense of the working conditions and treatment models face. "It just became more and more evident to me that this was a wonderful industry filled with strong, powerful, creative women but which lacked any regulation-and so was putting very young girls, often children, in compromising situations."
She has learned model often face compromising situations, sexual harassment, financial difficulty because of the lack of financial transparency, and they often have no chaperone. Sara made her own documentary following the life of models to reveal the behind the glam look at the difficulties faced behind the scenes titled "Picture Me".
Susan Scafidi saw the film, who is a law professor at Fordham University, wanted to help. Fashion Writer and former model, Jenna Saurers saw the documentary as well and was inspired to help.
