Chelsea Clinton has given birth to her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky Friday, Sept. 26, a representative for the Clinton family said, according to New York Daily News.
Chelsea, the only child of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, announced on Twitter and Facebook just after midnight Saturday, Sept. 27, that she and Marc welcomed a baby girl.
"Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky, wrote the34-year-old former NBC News special correspondent.
New grandparents Bill and Hillary re-tweeted their daughter's announcement early Saturday.
Chelsea announced her pregnancy at the end of a Clinton Foundation event with her mother this year at the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City, the Los Angeles Times reported. "I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child - hopefully children - as my mom was to me," Chelsea said at the event.
The new mama announced late last month that she was leaving NBC News to focus on her work at the Clinton Foundation and as she and her husband look forward to welcoming their first child.
Hillary had also been very vocal about her excitement in welcoming his first grandchild.
"Now I've been thinking a lot about family, because you know I'm on grandbaby watch and I think a lot about this new member of our family and what he or she can look forward to," Hillary said on Sept. 19 at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum, according to E! News. "Whether you're the grandchild of a president or the grandchild of a janitor, whether you're born in a city or in a small rural village-no matter who you are, you have the right to inherit the American dream."
The family did not reveal Chelsea's due date, but Bill recently let it slip during an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria. "I can't wait," he told Zakaria of welcoming his grandchild. "I hope by the first of October, I'll be a grandfather."
