Jason Derulo is breaking his silence following his split from long-time girlfriend Jordin Sparks.

Multiple sources previously reported about the split but Derulo initially said he didn't want to comment on the issue.

However, during an interview with the Twin Cities station, KDWB-FM, the singer couldn't help but address the news.

When the DJ asked Derulo if he and Sparks have decided to remain friends despite their breakup, the singer simply said "Yeah," according to E! News.

"Yeah, everything is cool, man. It's not a bad situation. You know, it's not one of those kinda things," he explained.

As of late, there have been no clear reports as to what exactly caused the breakup after their three-year relationship.

On September 15, Sparks hinted on the breakup and tweeted, "I just wrote the saddest song of my life."

The couple started dating three years ago but went public in January 2012. Since then, they have been supportive of each other's success and failures.

At one point, Derulo suffered a terrible accident and he said that Sparks was there for him throughout the entire time.

The breakup therefore came as a surprise to everyone especially after Derulo revealed last month that he wants Sparks to be his life-long partner.

When asked when he would pop the question, Derulo said, "When the time is right, for sure. I knew that pretty early on. I felt that when I was in the hospital with my neck injury... I felt different... I felt like I needed her in my world."

A few months ago, Derulo wrote a song entitled "Marry Me" which explains the kind of pressure he felt every time someone would ask him to propose to Sparks, Seattle PI reported.

In an interview with MTV, he revealed, "I was just trying to explain that we have forever, so what's the rush... There is a lot of pressure, and there was a lot of pressure before the song. I wrote the song because of the pressure and then I made the pressure worse because people just listen to the chorus and all they hear is 'Will You Marry Me?'"
