British musician and singer-songwriter Sting and American pop rock band No Doubt will perform together at the Global Citizen Festival on September 27, according to Billboard.
The team-up is an addition to the official lineup that includes Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, The Roots, and Alicia Keys, among other famous acts.
The one-song collaboration has been described by live event and TV producer Ken Ehrlich as "pretty organic," reports Billboard. "It came from No Doubt. We talked about a couple of possible people to do something with. As soon as we mentioned Sting, they loved that," he said.
Ehrlich did not reveal what the artists will perform, saying all parties want to surprise the audience.
"It's a song that both acts are familiar with. I'm old, but I'm still a believer in the element of surprise, as much as we can. It's not easy in this age of tweets and the rest of it, but we're going to try," the producer said.
Both Sting and No Doubt expressed enthusiasm over the performance but Sting had to squeeze the collaboration into his schedule. His musical "The Last Ship" is about to be shown on Broadway.
"Sting was very excited about doing it. His desire to do it was quick, but it really came down to making sure scheduling worked," Ehrich said.
The Global Citizen Festival, which will take place on the Great Lawn in New York's Central Park, is an annual charity event by The Global Poverty Project. It aims to help achieve the eradication of extreme poverty by 2030.
Jay-Z, the festival's headliner, said in a statement about his performance at the event that change "only takes place when and where there is action," says Rolling Stone.
"I'm joining the 2014 Global Citizen Festival because I believe through actions, whether it be by raising awareness, getting involved or educating ourselves, the goal to end extreme poverty by 2030 is possible."
The Global Citizen Festival is a free ticketed event, according to Music Times.
