An alternate ending to "How I Met Your Mother" was leaked online, five months after the actual ending aired on the CBS network.

The alternate ending was released in an attempt to promote the "How I Met Your Mother" complete series box set that will be available starting September 23.

As of late, 20th Century Fox has not yet confirmed whether or not the alternate ending is actually year but back in April, show creator Craig Thomas teased on the possibility of the series having two endings, according to Latinos Post.

"We love all #HIMYM fans and respect all opinions... so we want to share that Plan B with you on the series box set."

Show co-creator Carter Bays was previously interviewed by US Weekly where he explained the decision why the network opted to go with the Ted-Robin ending.

"16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings. We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too."

The original ending of the show featured Ted Mosby, played by actor Josh Radnor, ending up with Robin, played by actress Colbie Smulders, Fashion N Style noted.

Their relationship throughout the past couple of seasons have been one that always interested the fans but the death of Ted's first wife, Tracy McConnell, who is known as the "Mother" changed their fates.

In the new clip released on Saturday, September 6, HIMYM fans witnessed Ted and Tracy's marriage.

Fans of the series were displeased with the ending and Bays was quick to defend their decision when he said, "If you didn't like the finale, I guess that happens. We tried something and it didn't connect with you. I hope we're still friends."
