Netflix is now allowing its online subscribers to recommend favorite shows and movies on Facebook in a more discreet manner than previously available.

Until now, Netflix users who link their Facebook accounts to the video streaming service had no option other than to automatically share everything they watch to their news feed, according to US News.

This method of sharing and recommending videos will be terminated by Netflix on Tuesday, by which users will then have the capability of choosing who among their Facebook friends will be able to view their recommendations, says Tech Insider.

Cameron Johnson, Director of Product Development at Netflix, remarks, "There are a lot of people on Facebook that you don't really know that well. If you are really moved by a piece of content and you know someone in your life that would like it, you are going to want them to watch it too, so you can talk about it and get excited about it together."

"In the past people were watching the same things at the same time. It was on at a certain time slot and the next morning people would come into work and chat about it," Johnson added. "But now the user is in control and they can watch whatever they want to watch whenever they want to watch it. But there's still this natural desire to connect."

Netflix users will also be able to add a personalized message that will pop up the next time a Facebook friend logs on to Netflix, reports the Telegraph. This will let users recreate "watercooler moments" according to Johnson, by letting their subscribers share their recommendations in a more personalized manner.

"If you are really moved by a piece of content and you know someone in your life that would like it, you are going to want them to watch it too, so you can talk about it and get excited about it together," Johnson said.
