A "24" film might still happen after all.
Talks to bring Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer to the big screen have gained traction in recent weeks.
Imagine Entertainment, the production company behind the hit political thriller television series, is said to be interested in a new feature film idea, sources told TVLine.
Imagine Entertainment Chairman Brian Grazer is reportedly enthusiastic about the pitch, but the idea has not yet been brought to 20th Century Fox.
Last January, the 47-year-old actor who plays the popular Counter Terrorist Unit agent, said at the 2014 Winter TCA Press Tour, that a "24" movie may always happen in the future. "The film's an ongoing situation. There's always an opportunity to do that," he said at the time, according to E! News.
The possibility for a movie, however, is somehow complicated as Fox is more likely to continue the television revival after the success of the recent limited series "24: Live Another Day," TV Guide reported.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills last July, Fox CEO and chairman Peter Rice said that they have not had any conversation about the series coming back yet. But he said that he is pretty sure that they will talk about the show's return in the future.
"I loved this year's season of '24,'" Rice said, adding that it is a "wonderful" franchise, according to E! News.
"Kiefer, Evan [Katz], Howard [Gordon] and Manny [Coto] did a great job this year," he continued. "When you look at the show itself, I think it has many more stories to tell, but I think we need to sit down and talk to the creators about it."
Plans for a "24" movie first made headlines shortly after the conclusion of the eight season of the show in 2010. However, the production was halted in March 2012, TV Guide noted.
Then just this July, executive producer Jon Cassar revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that discussions about a film are still happening. "We're still talking about it. It's still potentially out there," he told Digital Spy.
